사회적 실천 행위로서의 읽기 방법의 설계에 대한 시고 = A study on the reading methods as social practice actions

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

It's a trend to regard reading as social practice actions lately. But we haven't stated ‘The reading of social practice actions’ yet concretely. This paper set the goal at studying of the concrete phase. Considering the character of the reading of social practice actions specially, this paper focused on searching the appropriate reading methods. This paper doesn't try to studying the goal comprehensively, but the one of trial to reach the goal.
In order to design the method of reading, first, the theory of language and the theory of culture need to be integrated which doesn't purse simple mix and integration in stages. Second, it is to be chosen to guarantee the flexibility of the text which is based on not the fixed entity but the flexible entity of the text.
This paper talked on the concrete method based on the Fairclough (1992) who suggest's analysis of discourse with treating of the three aspect such as text, discourse practice and social practice. The analysis of the text means the analysis of linguistic aspect such as vocabulary, grammar, cohesion, textual structure. The analysis of the discourse practice means the production, distribution, consumption of the text, and means the analysis of the force of utterance, coherence, intertextuality concretely. The analysis of the social practice means that how the discursive event exchange's with social institution and environment, and build's up the entity of discourse practice with constructive effect.
Text, dicourse practice and social practice don't exist in stages. It would be better stop analyzing social practice based on the analysis of the discourse practice after analysis of the text. It doesn't means that the relations among text, dicourse practice and social practice aren't in stages because the sphere of social practice include the sphere of dicourse practice which include the sphere of text. For example, the analysis of the text can be made simultaneously with the analysis of the discourse practice and social practice. It is meaningless trial to read text with dividing strictly among the sphere of text, dicourse practice and social practice.
When text, dicourse practice and social practice are arranged in a straight line, the effect of the language theory is big with an inclination to the sphere of the text, the effect of the culture theory is big with an inclination to the sphere of the social practice. But as it is meaningless trial to divide strictly among the sphere of text, dicourse practice and social practice, it is also meaningless trial to divide the applied scope of the sphere of the theory.
It haven't been clear to answer to a question such as what is the reading as a social practice, what is the concrete method. This paper just emphasizes again the necessity of discussion, it is necessary to be discussed profoundly what the reading as a social practice is and what the concrete method is.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 읽기를 하나의 사회적 실천(social practice) 행위로 보려는 관점이 등장하였다. 그러나 우리는 아직 ‘사회적 실천 행위로서의 읽기’가 무엇인지를 구체적으로 진술하지 못하고 있다. 이 논문은 그 구체적인 양상에 대한 고찰을 목표로 한다. 특히 사회적 실천 행위로서의 읽기가 갖는 성격을 고려할 때, 적절한 읽기 방법이 무엇인가를 탐색하는데 초점을 둔다. 그러나 미리 밝히지만, 이 논문은 그것을 종합적으로 고찰하려는 시도와는 거리가 멀다. 이 논문은 그러한 목적에 도달하려는 하나의 시도일 뿐이다.
사회적 실천 행위로서의 읽기 방법을 설계하기 위해서는 첫째, 언어 이론과 문화 이론을 통합할 필요가 있다. 이 때 주의할 점은 언어 이론과 문화 이론의 단순한 합이나 위계적 및 단계적인 통합은 지양해야 한다는 점이다. 둘째, 텍스트의 유동성을 담보할 수 있는 읽기 방법을 선택해야 한다. 텍스트가 고정된 실체가 아닌 동적 실체라면 이를 고려한 읽기 방법의 설계가 필요하다.
이 논문에서는 Fairclough(1992)에 기대어 그 구체적인 방법에 대하여 논하였다. Fairclough(1992)는 담론 분석을 위해 텍스트(text), 담론적 실천(discourse practice), 사회적 실천(social practice)의 세 가지 차원을 다룰 것을 제안한다. 텍스트에 대한 분석은 텍스트의 언어적 차원 즉 어휘, 문법, 응집성(cohesion), 텍스트 구조 등에 대한 분석을 의미하는 것이며 담론적 실천에 대한 분석은 텍스트의 생산(production), 유통(distribution), 소비(consumption)에 대한 분석을 의미하는 것으로서 구체적으로는 발화의 힘(the force of utterance), 결속 구조(coherence), 상호텍스트성(intertextuality)에 대한 분석을 의미한다. 마지막으로 사회적 실천에 대한 분석은 담론 사건(discursive event)이 사회 제도나 환경 등과 어떻게 교류하여 담론적 실천의 속성을 형성하고 담론적 구성 효과(constructive effect)를 갖는지를 분석하는 것을 말한다.
텍스트, 담론적 실천, 사회적 실천의 세 차원은 결코 단계화되어 있지 않다. 텍스트를 분석한 후 담론적 실천 차원을 분석하고 이를 바탕으로 하여 사회적 실천 차원을 분석하는 방식은 지양한다. 사회적 실천 차원이 담론적 실천 차원을, 담론적 실천 차원이 다시 텍스트 차원을 포함하고 있는 것은 이들의 관계가 결코 단계적이지 않음을 의미한다. 예컨대 텍스트에 대한 분석은 담론적 실천 및 사회적 실천 차원에 대한 분석과 동시에 이루어질 수 있다. 이들은 서로가 엄격하게 분리될 수 없기 때문에 각 차원을 분리하여 텍스트를 읽으려는 시도는 무의미하다.
텍스트, 담론적 실천, 사회적 실천의 세 차원을 일직선으로 나열할 때, 텍스트 차원으로 갈수록 언어 이론의 영향이 크고 사회적 실천 차원으로 갈수록 문화 이론의 영향이 크다. 그러나 이들을 엄격하게 분리하려는 시도가 무의미한 것처럼 차원에 따라 각 이론의 적용 범위를 분리하려는 시도 또한 무의미하다.
사회적 실천 행위로서의 읽기란 무엇이며 그 구체적인 방법은 무엇인가에 대한 대답은 여전히 명쾌하지 않다. 이 논문은 단지 그러한 논의의 필요성을 다시 한 번 강조하고 있을 뿐이다. 앞으로 이에 대해서 심도 있는 논의가 계속 이어질 필요가 있다.
