This study was to interpret the results of the three surveys of eye movements from 1849 through 1984. The role of eye movements was focussed on the initial stage of human information processing.
The relation of types of eye movements to their recording methods contributed to the development of psychological knowledge : reading processes, physiological processes, cognitive and perceptual processes, and information processing.
However, it was shown that the most eye movement knowledge did not help leading instructor make a reading program. Why? It was because the eye- movement knowledge was for only observation or measurement, not for training.
