대학교수 역할의 재해석 : 대학교육의 기능 강화를 위하여 For the quality in undergraduate teaching = Faculty Role Reconsidered

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purposes of this study are to describe the faculty responsibility in teaching, research, and service and to explore the role conflict with which they might confront in higher educational institutions.
The study indicates current issues and theories about university faculty. According to the Special Reports of Carnegie Foundation in 1990, the scholarship was reconsidered by suggesting four functions of the professoriate, yet overlapping components :
1)the discovery of the new knowledge,
2)the integration of the new knowledge,
3)the application of the new knowledge, and
4)teaching students.
Three types of tri-form model of the college teaching are illustrated : interactive model, dualistic model, and bifurcated model. Among these, the researcher suggests the interactive model as a form of successful college teaching which integrates the research activities and teaching activities of the faculty members in higher education.
The findings of this study allow professors and administrators in higher education to better understand of the faculty members' responsibilities, which are vital to the development of knowledge about them, and further, for the higher quality of undergraduate education.
