This study was aimed to elucidate the relationship between the housewives' information collection and their purchasing behavior in terms of information source, information collection, and housewives' social status (age, income, education, job).
Questionnaire is given to based on theoretical review and preceding study.
A 415 sample was taken from Seoul area, from September 5, to 12, 1989. Data were analyzed in terms of ANOVA and Chi square test. The major results of this study are as follows ;
1. The recognition of information by housewives showed to be 20.4/27(76/100), which was higher than the average. The values were siginificantly related to housewives' demo-graphic variables such as age(p<0.01), income(p<0.05), and educational background(p< 0.001).
2. The information source and information collection action were related to the durable goods(refrigerator, washing machine, gas range) of 6 information sources(one's judgement, explanation and warranty of the quality of the goods, report of cosumer group(research materials, mailed materials, pamphlet, purchasing guide, booklet, mass media as TV, radio, journal, newspaper, seller's advice, family, friend, a close acquaintance's advice) the majority of housewives used 3 or 4 of information sources. However, among housewives' age of twenties consulted 5 information sources.
3. Information receptive action
(1) Income and education of the housewives were signigicantly related to the degree of information satisfaction.
(2) Age of housewives were significantly related to information confidence.
(3) Age of the housewives were significantly related to durable goods acquisition, and influence of neighborhood.
(4) Age and education for the housewives were significantly related to information utilization. For further study based upon the results, the proposals are as follows ;
1. Credible neutral information sources should be provided by govermental standard, consumer protection organization, journals of consumers and mass media's consumer education program etc.
2. In daily life housewives should be educated to utilize the information efficiently and positively. Consumer education program is recomended so as to fullfil as the above.
3. For further detailed research, the standardization of the instrument should be elaborated.
