도시의 현대성 극복을 위한 장소론 = A Study on Place for Overcoming the Modernity in City

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 현대성이 도시를 장소보다는 공간으로 간주하기 때문에 사람들을 도시로부터 소외시키고 있다는 인식하에, 도시를 장소라는 시각에서 바라봄으로써 인간과 도시의 통합 가능성을 재발견하려는 것이다. 이러한 가능성을 찾기 위하여 먼저 현대성이 장소에 끼친 부정적 결과를 논의한 다음, 장소의 본래적 의미 및 그와 관련된 인간의 체험방식을 파악하고 장소로서의 도시의 의미를 포착한다. 궁 극적으로 본 연구는 도시가 단순히 물적 대상물이 아니라 인간과 대상물의 통합체라는 시각에서 도시계획 및 도시설계가 진행되어야 하는 당위성을 강조하고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to rediscover the possibilities of integration between man and city from the viewpoint of city as place, recognizing that modernity alienates people from city because it let us see the city as space rather than as place. To search for these possibilities, we first discuss the negative impacts of modernity upon place, get hold of the intrinsic meaning of place and the lived-experience way of man related to it, and grasp the meaning of city as place. Ultimately this study emphasizes that urban planning and urban design should be pursued in the position that city is not a physical object but a consolidation between man and object.
