The purpose of this study was to deeply discuss the concept of business ethics, and to determine how the Korean tourism industry can practice it effectively.
To accomplish this purpose, the study reviewed the literature related to this topic and examined two cases of 'industry ethics' (hotel and travel agent ethics) established in 1991 by the Korea Tourist Association.
Finding of this study revealed that since adherence is volutary, industry ethics could play only a public relations role, rather than serve as guidelines for the various components of the travel industry. And also, differently from general ethics, it was found that systematic management is required to practice business ethics properly.
Based upon these finding, this study proposed four comprehensive suggestions :
One, the establishment of responsive corporate ideology is needed;
Two, the systematic management of corporate ethics is essential;
Three, a united approach among the members of travel industry is required;
Four, the composition of an ethical environment is premised.
