大韓興學會에 대하여 = On Dae-han Heung-hak-whoi

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

At the end of Cho-sun dynasty, when Japan conspired to invade the Korean peninsula, the intelligentsia of Cho-sun drove a patriotic mass-education campaign to prevent Japan from its armed aggression. Among the students was studying abroad, especially in Japan, not only for emerging from the difficulties of their fatherland, but also for new learning, their rapidly in creased a great number of students who speut their own money on school expenses from 1905.
These students thought the way to maintain their fatherland's independence lay in the power of unified organization, so they organized "Dae-han Heung-hack-whoi," the organization of learned society for the intelligentsia of Cho-sun.
The good of this organization was to increase knowledge of the members of the
society, enlighten the way of thinking of the public, promote national wealth, and keep the independence of the nation.
The purpose of this paper is to study the achievement of Dae-han Heung-hak-whoi
and activity of the students studied in Japan that time by investigating the organization thought its organ published then.
