One of the most serious problems in our society is raising children for working mothers. In many developed countries, child rearing is not just a problem for the parents alone but a social problem. In the U.S.A. and Japan, children of working mothers were educated and cared for in well-qualified day nurseries or all-day kindergartens.
The purpose of this study was to examine all-day kindergarten programs and to provide the basic directions of these programs. To achieve its purpose, the study reviewed its necessity, its definition, identified the various types and its effectiveness of all-day kindergarten programs.
The results of this study suggested the fundamental directions for suitable all-day kingarten programs as follows ;
(1) the program should aim to develop the whole child.
(2) the program should plan and practice based on the child centered philosophy.
(3) tlie program should consider class groupings, the length of the programs and tuition flexibility according to each unique situation.
