한국언론의 북한보도 현황과 통일 지향성에 관한 연구 = A Study on the Present Situation of Reporting about North Korea and the Direction towaed National Unification in the Korean Press

The purpose of this study is to examine the present state of reporting about North Korea and the direction toward national unification in the Korean Press.
The contents of articles reported by the Korean Press have given a great effect on Koreans' recognition of North Korea and formation of public opinion related North Korea.
But there have been many elements restricting news gathering and reporting about North Korea. Among them, the most powerful has been the government. The government has restricted reporting about North Korea by controling and mobilizing the press.
And the properties of the Korean press. which is substantially commercial and conservative, have exerted a vicious influence on reporting about North Korea. Owing to the commercialistic competition and the ideological constraints, reports on North Korea in the Korean press have been sensational and partial.
Consequently the image of North Korea reported by the Korean press has been negative on the whole. As the Korean press has emphasized the warmongering and fabrication of North Korea, the heterogeneity between North and South Korea is solidified. This is considered to be caused by the distrust and hostility for North Korea.
After all, there are so many things to improve in reporting about North Korea in the Korean press. First of all, the Korean press has to make efforts to report about North Korea correctly and impartially. And the Korean press must try to play an important role in national unification. In other words, the tasks of the Korean press, above all, are to make trust between North and South Korea and to recover national homogeneity.
