This study was designed to investigate the relationship of Work Stress, Hardiness, and Burnout of Dental Technician. The data for this study were obtained from 307 Dental Technicians working for dental clinics or dental departments of clinics of hospitals in Seoul and Kyonggi area from March 8 to April 3, 1999. The data were analyzed by Frequency, t-test, oneway-ANOVA, twoway-ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, Stepwise Multiple Regression.
The results of analysis were as follows;
1. The level of dental technician's Work Stress was 3.61 point(by 5 point scale).
The level of dental technician's Hardiness was 2.07 point(by 4 point scale).
The level of dental technician's Burnout was 2.71 point(by 5 point scale).
2. The relationship of Work Stress, Hardiness and Burnout of dental technician.
(1) The 1st hypothesis, 'The higher the level of dental technician's Work Stress, The level of Burnout would be higher.' was supported (r=.417, p<.001).
(2) The 2nd hypothesis, 'The higher the level of dental technician's Hardiness, the level of Burnout would be lower.' was supported (r=-.394, p<.001).
(3) A stepwise multiple regression analysis was conducted by adopting seven
sub-domains such as Hardiness, Work stress and the like as independent variables.
As a result, it was a found that such independent variables as Hardiness(15.8%), Own problem(13.5%), Overload(3.2%), Interpersonal relationship(1.5%), Physical environment(0.8%), had the explanatory power of 34.6% about Burnout.
(4) The degree of Burnout was analyzed according to Work Stress and Hardiness. The group with the high level of Work stress and the low level of Hardiness showed a significantly high level of Burnout than that with the low level of Work stress and the high level of Hardiness.
