아동 청소년 문제행동 평가척도의 개발을 위한 예비연구 = Development of Korean Child Behavior Checklist:A Preliminary Study

1331 elementary school children were assessed using the Korean version Child Behavior Checklist(CBCL) parental form, and their data were compared to a gruup of 73 elementary school age children who were seen as outpatients at the Severance Hospital during the period from March, 1987 to April, 1988.
The results were as follows;
1) There was a tendency for both behavior problems and social competence to increase with age among normal elementary school children.
2) There were no sex differences in total behavior problem score or social competence score among normal children.
3) Korean parents rated their children as showing more behavior problems and lower social competence than their counterparts in America or Holland.
4) Using the criterion of "equal to or above" 90th percentile on the total behavior problem score and/or "equal to or below" 10th percentile on the social competence, 66% of boys and 80% of girls in the clinical group could be correctly classified.
The results were discussed in terms of mechanisms underlying cross cultural difference in the parental rating of children's behavior problems. The Korean version of CBCL showed a relatively high level of correct classification, suggesting its utility as a screening instrument for behavior problems in children.
