    The purpose of this study was to compair a group of abused children with a selected control group in the aggression and empathy.
    The research question of this study are as follows:
    (1) Are abused children more aggressive than nonabused children?
    (2) Are abused children less empathic than nonabused children?
    The subjects in this study were 68 abused children and 59 nonabused children. The age range of this children was 14-16 years. To select abused children, primarily, on the basis of child Abuse Measure, 68 were selected among runaway children who were at the caring institutions. Nonabused children were selected almost at the same condition as the abused children in terms of age, sex, socioeconomic status. Nonabused children were selected at the jun ior high school in seoul(Low class).
    CTS(Conflict Tactics Scale) developed by straus(1979) was modified to measure children's physical abuse. To measure neglect, on the basis of NCCAN (National Center of Child Abuse and Neglect) (1986)'s definition, the questionnaire was devised by author. To measure empathy, the questionnaire which is based on the index of Empathy for children and Adolescents by Bryant (1982) was modified and used. The Need Diagonostic Test by Hwang Joung Gyu(1965) was used as the questionnaire for children's aggression.
    The obtained data were analyzed by Frequency, percentage, Mean, t-test, Chi-square test.
    The results of this study were as follows:
    (1) Abused children were more aggressive than nonabused children. That is, it was found that the abused children had higher level of potential aggression drive to harm others physically and verbally.
    (2) Abused children were less empathic than nonabused children. That is, abused children were lack in helping and understanding others who were in distress compared to the nonabused children.
