Recent studies attest that anger is an important psychological factor to cardiovascular diseases and/or cancer in terms of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. Thus, an attempt was made to understand anger in a comprehensive way. To begin with, the rationale on why a comprehensive understanding of anger is needed was provîded. Then some basic natures of anger especially based on a control theory (Chon, 1989), were explored and presented. In order to facilitate an understanding of anger, a comparison was made between anger and other basic emotíons such as joy, sadness, fear, shame, and guilt among others. Finally, a cross cultural comparison was made, in part, to impmi fruitful implications from Western swdies.
