The purpose of this study is to analyse many articles about children's prosocial development and to examine determinants which affect prosocial behavior development.
The determinants of prosocial behavior are separated into personal factors(age. gender, personality traits), social factors (relationship between parents-children, peer relationships, school and teacher), cognitive factors (intelligence, perspective taking), and affective factor (empathy). The results of correlation between personal factors(age, gender, personality traits) and prosocial behavior are not consistent. They suggest the need for continuing research. Social factors (parents child-rearing, peer relationships, teacher modeling) greatly affect the determinents of children's prosocial behavior. There is a positive correlation between perspective taking/empathy and prosocial behavior but there is none for intelligence.
