The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of family resilience on successful positive-adaptation of their families by applying strength perspective. Majority of previous studies focused on the deficit perspective such as difficulties of family of children with disabilities and family stress, putting the main emphasis on the relief of maladaptation of families of children with disabilities. Recently, it emphasized to the positive adaptation of family rather than the negative side. A key part of this new trend is the study on family resilience. A survey was conducted upon 285 persons from the family of children with disabilities with the age range of 3 year old through junior in elementary schools who are members of rehabilitation center. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, multiple regression analysis by SPSS PC+ 10.0. The summary of the results is as follows. (1) The family adaptation is well explained by family resilience rather than family stress. Family stress and adaptation are in negative correlation and the adjusted R square of family adaptation by family stress is 18.4%. Family resilience and family adaptation have relatively high positive correlation and the adjusted R square of family adaptation by family resilience is 49.4%. It showed that family resilience is a main effect on family adaptation. (2) Family resilience functioned to moderate family adaptation between family stress. The statistically significant variables on family adaptation was the interaction variables of family stress & role stability, the interaction variable of family stress & attitude of family on disabilities Therefore, it concluded that family resilience is not only a main effect on family adaptation but also in relation to family stress have interaction effect. This finding give us significant practical implications for social work intervention & the direction of future research in family resilience.
