This study uses the data collected from 439 children who were at the 5th grade of five different elementary schools in Daegu. The purpose of this study were to (1) find out the prevalence of domestic violence with a variety of forms, (2) find out the significant variables contributing to the prevalence of domestic violence and the quality of parental child care, and examine the relationship among violence between child`s parents, parental violence toward their child and parental child care. The results from the this study are as follows. (1)The type of couple violence varies in terms of the type of both initiator and respondent, although husband-initiated couple violence(78.6%) is still dominant than wife-initiated couple violence(21.4%). The parental violence toward child seems to be pervasive, since 88% of the children reported that they have been abused either physically or emotionally by their parents during the last one year.(2)People in low socioeconomic class are found to be a high risk group who are vulnerable to domestic violence and poor child care. (3) There is a strong relationship between violence between child`s parents and parental violence toward child, however, such domestic violence is negatively related with parental child care. Evidence from the present study supports that the proposition that enhancing the parental child care can be applied effectively in preventing people with domestic violence.
