노인학습의 신화와 노인교육 기회증진방안 = Older Adult Educational Opportunities and Strategies to Increase Participation

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 성인학습자 집단으로서 노인들을 위한 성인교육 기회와 그 확대방안에 대해 논의하고 있다. 노인들은 중요한 인간자원이나, 노인들을 사회적 자원으로 인식하거나 활용하기 위한 학습기회에 대한 논의는 지극히 미흡한 실정이다. 노인들의 성인교육 참여는 사회적, 기관적 요인으로 저해되고 있다. 노인들의 학습능력에 대한 사회적 신화들은 노인들의 성인교육 참여를 저해하고 있다. 또한 우리나라 성인교육 프로그램 가운데 노인들을 위한 교육기회의 절대적 빈곤이 노인교육에의 참여를 저해하고 있다. 노인들의 학습욕구는 노인들의 특성이 다양해짐에 따라 더욱 그 수요가 늘어날 전망이다. 그러나 노인들의 학습기회에 대한 관심부족과 교육기회의 빈곤으로 노인들의 학습소외현상은 더욱 심화되고 있다. 노인들의 학습기회는 기존의 대학시설을 활용하거나 공교육시설을 활용하는 방안과, 노인학습을 위한 독자적 목적을 지닌 학습기회개방, 노인관련 협의회의 노인학습 기회확대 등으로 제시되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study investigates educational opportunities for older adults in Korea and aboard. It suggests the strategies to involve older people in adult educational programs. Even though the elders do not produce direct economic growth, they are a valuable resource for the develop- ment of our society. They own wisdoms and experiences to contribute to the society. They have educational needs for self-actualization and growth to remain as a group that contributes to the society and family. However, there are several barriers that hinder the involvement in older adult educational programs. Myths of the society toward the learning ability of older people are the biggest obstacle to the participation of older adults. Also shortage of the programs for older adults is another barrier to participation. Based on the educational opportunities for older adults abroad, the study suggests to open programs for older to utilize public school system and universities, to establish independent older learning center.
