To examine the outcome, 516(494 male, 22 female) alcohol dependents were followed up for 1-year through regular interviews on a monthly basis after discharge and following results were obtained.
    1) Patients continuously abstinent for 1 year after discharge were 67 subjects(13.0%). 254 subjects(49.2%) drank. again within 1 month after discharge.
    2) The mean total months of successful sobriety after discharge were 4.40, and longer in subjects with older age(p<01), with more frequent prior admissions due to drinking(p<.01), and with shorter duration of admission(p<.01). Patients with occupation(p<.01), with voluntary motive of admission(p<.01), and with occasional drinking pattern(p<.01) showed more longer total months of successful sobriety after discharge than their counterpart, respectively.
    3) The mean months to redrink after discharge were 2.78, and longer in older subjects(p<.01). Patiets without religion(p<.0.5), with voluntary motive of admission(p<.05), with occasional drinking pattern(p<.05) showed more longer initial months of successful sobriety after discharge than their counterpart, respectively. Conclusion : To prevent relapse of alcoholic patient, diverse therapeutic strategies should be practiced on early period, esp. within 3-4 month after discharge.
