This paper consists of four chapters but deals with two problems which are R-deletion and Naddition in Korean consonants. This two consonants counts among deletions and additions of Koreans.
A language is the system of rules. It change with time. therefore we can say that linguistic rules change with time too. Changes of rules include a deletion, an addition, an extension and a cut of rules. We beleive neither synchrony or diachrony the best method in explaining a language, for a language is the product of time and history. And so we beleive the best method explaining a language the method of mixing these two. We call it panchronic method or panchrony.
Analysis of Korean shows that R-deleting is classified into two groups. One is R-deleting in word-formation which contains compounding and derivation. We got understood that this phenomenon belongs to diachrony. And the other is R-deleting in inflection which is limited to verbs taking R-coda at the last syllable of verb-stem. We also got to know this phenomenon belongs to synchrony and R-deletion rule is now becoming to be cutting.
N-addition shows that it appears in word-formation. It is differently actualized between native Korean and Sino-Korean. N is on the whole added obligatorily in native Korean but not in Sino-Korean. In Sino-Korean it shows several aspects. But it is worth remembering that it is restricted by the styles of word-formation, the sorts of underlying forms and the sorts of initial vowels of following words.
