Concept map is a technique that represents graphically an individual's understanding of a given topic. Researchers suggest that concept maps are useful to represent knowledge in any discipline and aid in organizing and understanding new subject matter. This study describes the theoretical background of concept maps and discusses three ways of using concept maps in early childhood teacher education: concept map as a learning strategy, concept map as an instructional tool, and concept map as an evaluation tool. Some considerations in using concept maps are also discussed.
