역사지리정보시스템(HGIS)을 활용한 조선후기 군현도로 복원 - 여지도서 황해도 도로조를 중심으로 - = Reconstruction of Late Joseon Intercounty Network of Roads Using Historical Geographic Information Systems (HGIS): Focused on Roads of Hwanghae province in “Yeojidoseo(輿地圖書)”

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to reconstruct the transportation routes in the county based on the “Yeojidoseo(輿地圖書)” Hwanghae(黃海) province road article produced in the mid-18th century and present the results. The “Yeojidoseo” road article details the transportation routes in the county, categorized by origin, destination, waypoint, and distance. However, not all of them are the same, and there are some differences between counties. In this study, as a first step in restoring transportation routes, we attempted to synthesize the slightly different road articles of each county, categorize information on waypoints connecting roads into types, integrate place names, and create a database. As a result, 92 waypoints were extracted from the information of transportation routes connecting counties in the Hwanghae province, and 69 location values were created by comparing and analyzing duplicate place names and location information. As the next step for road restoration, the current location of the organized waypoints was determined. Using a GIS program, the current map and modern topographic map were superimposed and analyzed, and the current location of the 69 locations was determined despite the difference in reliability. Finally, we attempted to restore the transportation routes connecting the waypoints to the nodes. For this purpose, we organized 58 routes in the “Yeojidoseo” Hwanghae province road article, and created a road layer based on high level roads on modern topographic maps. Through the above work, we visualized the intercounty network of roads connecting the 23 counties of Hwanghae province, and confirmed that human and material exchanges were actively conducted through county roads in Hwanghae province despite topographical limitations through the analysis of elevation values of roads connecting Haeju(海州) and the northwestern counties.
