This paper researched that the buddhist temples in the capital city of Shilla dynasty represent the buddhism of Shilla in numbers, size, and the keynote.
In this article, I have arranged the names and size of 105(104) buddhist temples in the capital city, on the basis of the various books, epigraph, and the previous studies. I also tried to illustrate the process to develop the thought of Bool-kuk-to, by studying the locations of Sung-jeon temple and Chil-che ga-ram, as well as the background of building the temples. In addition, I studied the patterns of establishing the temples.
Next, I characterized the systems of the buddhist temples in the capital city as temples of state and those of nobles and the Royal House.
The temples of state held the events for securing the state, by lecturing the sutra of Inwang-kyung and Keumkwangmyung-kyung, and the buddhist events such as Palgwanwhei and Gandeung by king. The temples based on Whaerm-jong, Bupsang-jong, and Sen-jong were managed by Heungryun-sa, or Senkyo-sung and Joongsa-sung of the state. In short, the temples in the capital city directed the state events and the buddhist priests in the country by controling the various temples in the provinces.
Regarding to the temples of nobles and the Royal House, I mainly studied the temples where the people prayed for the souls of the departed and which were established by donation based on religious mind.
