Inak Uichum was famous for sagi(私記), which is a personal commentary based on the Buddhist temple. When King Jeongjo(正祖) founded the Yongjusa(龍珠寺) Temple, Inak was participated in the process of founding the temple. It can therefore be assumed that, at the time, he was famous. Due to being so popular, many Confucians asked him for companionship and the evidence of this remains in collection. The internal basis for the active communication of Inak with the Confucians is his broad interest in reading. He not only has read about the Buddhist temples, but further studied the Confucian books and the literature books.
Inak mentioned that he enjoyed reading the Book of Changes and the books of Zhu Xi(朱熹) a lot. There is no article other than this study that mentions and clarifies his tendency to read; it is therefore necessary to indirectly examine his tendency to read through his writing as well. Looking at the books he quoted, he is characterized by liking the Works of Mencius as well as poems by Du Fu(杜甫) and Wang Shizhen(王世貞). Wang Shizhen was an archaic poet of the Ming Dynasty and had a great influence on the literary circles in the late Joseon Dynasty; however, it is difficult to find traces of it in the Buddhist writings. As such, it can be seen that the reading tendency of Inak was in line with the trend at the time.
By having ideological conversations with the Confucian scholars, Inak actively insisted on the ideas of the Buddhist. In his letters to Nulchon(訥村), he stated that the source of everything is in "one’s mind." His letter is different from that of other monks, who mostly ask questions regarding his writing or ask how they are doing. Among the Confucian scholars, Hong Jikpil(洪直弼) was as famous as a representative of the Confucian scholars in the 19th century. When Hong Jik-pil was young, he came to meet his father, a local official in Daegu who was impressed by the veteran Inak. Their meeting is comparable to that of young Jeong Yakyong(丁若鏞) who was impressed by the old Yeondam(蓮潭).
