귀국 성인의 직장생활 적응과정: 근거이론접근 = A Study of Job Adjustment Process of Adult Returnees: Using Grounded Theory

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 귀국 성인들이 역문화충격을 경험하면서 어떻게 직장 생활을 적응해 나가고 있는지를 파악하기 위함이다. 이를 위해 ‘한국 제 3문화 아이들’로서 해외에서 성장기를 보내면서 고등교육 과정을 수료하고 현재 귀국하여 근로 중인 8명의 귀국 성인을 대상으로 심층 면담을 실시하였다. 면담자료는 Strauss와 Corbin(1998)의 근거이론 방법론에 의하여 분석되었다. 연구 결과, 개방코딩에서는 총 149개의 개념, 54개의 하위범주가 도출되었고, 이를 19개의 상위범주로 분류하였다. 축코딩의 과정분석에서 귀국 성인의 직장적응과정을 분석한 결과, ‘압도되어 난파되는 듯한 단계’, ‘끝이 안 보이는 혼란과 갈등의 표류 단계’, ‘수용하며 닻을 내리는 단계’, ‘정착 및 성장 단계’로 나타났다. 이에 따라 선택코딩에서 도출된 핵심범주는 ‘예상, 기대와 동떨어진 환경에서 혼란과 갈등으로 인한 흔들림을 극복하며 성장’으로 파악되었다. 이 외에도 상황모형에 따른 분석을 하였으며, 연구 결과를 바탕으로 주요 함의와 후속연구를 위한 제언을 하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to find out how adult returnees are adapting to their work lives as they experience reverse culture shock. For this purpose, we conducted in-depth interviews with 8 adult returnees who have completed their higher education course as TCK and are currently working in Korea. Interviews were analyzed using the method of grounded theory by Strauss and Corbin(1998). In open coding, 149 concepts, 54 sub-categories and 19 categories emerged from the data. In axial coding, the process of adult returnees’ job adjustment was ’overwhelmingly shipwrecking stage’, ‘unending confusion and conflict drifting stage’, ‘accepting and anchoring stage’, and ‘settlement and growth stage’. In selective coding, the core category was identified as ‘growing up in an environment far from expectations and overcoming the upsets of confusion and conflict’. In addition, the conditional matrix was analyzed, and based on the findings of this study, major implications of this study and follow-up studies were discussed.
