In geography education, it is important to provide a variety of opportunities to explore regional geographic issues in order to connect learners with geographic communities. Therefore, in this study, we explored the possibility as a pedagogical tool in high school geography classroom by applying the photovoice methodology, a participatory action research in which students actively participate in solving community issues and their problems. As a result, in the following three aspects, Photovoice has value as a geographical pedagogical tool. First, photovoice can promote critical citizenship by empowering students. Second, Photovoice transforms the students positionality from the object of knowledge to the producer of knowledge in the process of taking, selecting, interpreting, discussing, and exhibiting pictures. Third, Photovoice connects the inside and outside of the geography classroom, actively participating in the community and transforming them into active learners.
