    신라 사찰의 진입방식 변화와 불국사 靑雲橋·白雲橋의 의미

    This study reached its conclusions in four aspects including the realization of an ideal access way, completion of function, structure, and design, perfect illustrations of Buddhist scriptures, and the biggest remaining single structure from Unified Silla.
    In the aspect of realization of an ideal access way, they introduced a new access way in the forms of bridges and stairs to overcome height differences by the section in the process of Sillas Buddhist temples moving from plains to hills and mountains. The bridge form was considered as a high-end technique applied to access ways at Sillas Buddhist temples. The exquisite combination of an access way in the bridge form and another access way in the stair form was realized in Cheongwoongyo and Baekwoongyo at the Bulguk Buddhist Temple. They are the greatest access ways among Buddhist temples built in Silla.
    Cheongwoongyo and Baekwoongyo boast completion of function, structure, and design. Their main function is to help visiting Buddhists to the Bulguk Buddhist Temple enter the zone of the main building. They have played their role fully until recently. There is an emphasis on the structural rigidity of Cheongwoongyo and Baekwoongyo since they are bigger and higher than the old post-lintel stylobates. Elements of wooden architecture were adapted in them such as the expression of Cheomagol at the connection of banister stones and stairs in the southern, eastern, and western section of the bridges, the borrowing of gaze shield walls between three-row columns in the eastern and western parts, and the use of rafters at the top.
    The people of Silla expressed their idea of an ideal Buddha land at the Bulguk Buddhist Temple. Cheongwoongyo and Baekwoongyo offer a great embodiment of such an ideal land in the scriptures. One, for instance, has to go over into the world of nirvana far from the real world in order to enter Buddha Land. Here, Cheongwoongyo and Baekwoongyo can serve as media for ones entry into Buddha Land where the Seokga and Dabo Pagodas are. The perimeter of Buddha Land is wrapped by the banisters in seven layers and nets, and it is expressed by the banisters of Cheongwoongyo and Baekwoongyo and the Dolnandae connecting the banisters.
    Cheongwoongyo and Baekwoongyo are the biggest stone structures whose original forms are kept intact perfectly in the nation. Damage was found at several places of the bridges in photographs taken during the Japanese rule, but the basic form of Hongyegyo is kept intact. The original forms have been maintained almost perfectly since their construction.
