"헨리 나우웬 영성이 현대 기독교 영성에 미친 영향 : 한 복음주의자의 견해"

국문 초록 (Abstract)

포스트모던과 뉴에이지로 표현되는 새로운 시대에 접어들면서 기독교인을 포함하여 사람들은 자신들의 영적 갈증을 채워줄 영성에 관심을 가지게 되었다. 하지만 사람들, 심지어 기독교인도 자신들이 추구하는 건전하고도 균형 잡힌 영성을 찾기란 쉬운 일이 아니다. 특히 현대의 급격한 사회구조적 변화와 함께 다양한 형태의 새로운 신학조류들이 생겨나면서 기독교 영성의 기본 토대라 할 수 있는 성서를 비롯한 신학, 그 중에서도 중심이 되는 기독론이 도전을 받고 있으며 이러한 사회적 신학적 변화들로 인하여 오늘날 기독교 영성에서 다음과 같은 여러 가지 문제들이 생겨났다. 가톨릭과 개신교가 공존하는 종교적 상황과 제2차 바티칸 공회 및 토마스 머톤의 영성은 Nouwen의 초교파적이고도 관계적인 영성 형성에 깊은 영향을 미쳤다. 이러한 Nouwen 영성의 특징을 살펴보면 다음과 같다: 첫째, Nouwen 영성은 기독론적 특성을 지닌 동시에 관계적이며 성서적인 동시에 교회 전통에 충실한 균형 잡힌 통전적 영성이다. 둘째, Nouwen 영성은 이상적인 동시에 현실적이며, 사변적인 동시에 행동적이며 개인적인 동시에 또한 공동체적이다. 이러한 특징을 지닌 Nouwen 영성이 현대 기독교 영성에 미친 영향을 다음과 같다. 첫째, 이전의 “위로부터의 영성”에서 “아래로부터의 영성”으로의 변화를 들 수 있다. 둘째, Nouwen의 영성은 현대 기독교 영성의 정체성을 확립하고 발전시켰다. 셋째, Nouwen은 쉽지 않은 영성의 내용들을 일반 기독교인들이 쉽게 이해하고 적용할 수 있도록 함으로 기독교 영성의 보편화에 기여하였다. 이상에서 살펴 본 이러한 Nouwen의 기독교영성에 대한 통찰과 깨달음, 그리고 영적 깨달음을 실천하려고 애쓴 그의 삶은 현대 기독교 영성에 계속하여 더 큰 영향을 미치게 될 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

As the world has been changed into the new era, which is characterized both as postmodern and as new age, people including Christians become interested in spirituality to fulfill their spiritual hunger. It is, however, not easy for them, even for Christians, to find the sound and balanced spirituality. Since the various new theological ideas with rapid socio-structual changes challenge the essential theological truth of Christology and the Bible, there are some problems related to today’s Christian Spirituality. The socio-religious context of Netherlands where Protestants and Catholics coexist, Concilium Vaticanum Secundum(the Second Vatican Council), and Thomas Merton influence upon Nouwen’s spirituality which is interdenominational and relational. The characteristics of Nouwen’s spirituality are as follows: Christocentric, relational and biblical, holistic spirituality sticked to Church traditions; idealistic and realistic, speculative and action-oriented, and individualistic and communal. Nouwen’s spirituality impacts on modern Christian spirituality in several ways. First, from “spirituality from above” to “spirituality from below,” second, Nouwen’s spirituality contributes to rebuilding the identity of Christian spirituality. Nouwen’s Christo-centric spirituality based on the Bible helps modern Christian spirituality to keep its track on the right direction which focuses on Jesus Christ, not on emotionalism or subjectivism. Third, Nouwen makes spirituality accessible to the ordinary Christians and fulfill them with the easy interpretation of the spirituality in daily life. Those Nouwen’s insights and understandings of spirituality will continue to contribute to modern Christian spirituality and to impact on the world.
