In 2013 “Act on the Promotion of the Offering and Use of Public Sector Data,” a legislation on the re-use of the public sector information, has been enacted in Korea. Along with the recent popularization of smart devices such as smart phones and tablet PCs, Korean society has witnessed demanding needs for the opening of public sector data for developing new services and products. This paper is to review current legal issues of the re-use of the public sector data in Korea, including the scope and process, special rules in museums and libraries, charging fees, and redress and dispute resolution. As a comparative study on the policies and rules, the authors introduce some of the cases and materials of other countries including EU and USA.
