다문화주의 패러다임에 대한 종합 분석 = 패러다임과 Banks 접근법과의 관계성을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

다문화 교육은 현재 가장 주목 받고 있는 연구 분야 중의 하나이다. 다문화 교육에 대한 사회적 관심 확산에 따라 최근 들어 학계에서도 다문화 교육관련 연구물들이 급증하고 있다. 그러나 동시에 많은 연구에서 우리나라의 다문화 교육은 아직 연구 초기 단계이며, 특히 이론적 뒷받침이 상당히 필요한 것으로 지적되고 있다. 본 연구는 다문화 교육에 관한 사회적ㆍ학문적 관심 증가에도 불구하고, 이론적 토대가 아직도 미흡하다는 문제 인식에서 비롯되었다. 이 같은 인식하에 본 연구에서는 현재 우리의 다문화 교육과 관련된 다양한 관점들을 비교해 볼 수 있는 이론적ㆍ철학적 패러다임 틀을 구성하고자 하였다. 아울러, 본 연구서는 다문화 교육에 관한 다양한 방법론적 전략들이 5가지의 이론적ㆍ철학적 패러다임과 관련하여 실제로 어떻게 실행될 수 있는가를 Banks(1988)의 접근법을 중심으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구에서 구성된 이론적ㆍ철학적 패러다임 틀은 지금까지의 선행연구에서 개념화하고 있는 다문화 교육이란 무엇인가를 밝히고, 그러한 개념 하에서 추진되고 있는 다양한 실행양상과 그 가능성과 한계를 미리 전망해 보게 해 주는 도구가 될 수 있다. 그리고 이론적?철학적 패러다임과의 연관성속에서 살펴본 Banks의 접근법의 구체적 실행양상 유형 등은 우리의 불분명한 다문화 교육개념을 섬세하게 이론화하고, 나아가 새로운 가능성을 모색하는 기반을 제공할 것으로 전망된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study arises from the lack of theocratical frame works and the growing confusion concerned with multicultural practices. This is problematic because it leaves many educators and teachers in the place of uncertainty about effective educational practices. By reviewing and analyzing various literature, this study makes an attempt to develop a synthesis of multicultural education frame works that can make sense of variations among current educational practices regarding multicultural education in Korea.
This study provides an overview and critique of various multicultural education perspectives such as conservative multiculturalism, liberal multiculturalism, pluralist multiculturalism, left-essentialist multiculturalism, and critical multiculturalism. This study also connect Banks(1988) 4 different approaches to various multicultural education perspectives in order to explore the dynamic relations between the theocratical perspectives and methodological approaches.
