라반의 움직임 분석 이론을 활용한 움직임 창작과정 연구 = Study on the Process of Creating Movements by Using LMA

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to examine how choreographers choose effective parts of the body and organize movements when they create movements for choreographies. I was interested in the possibility that choreographers can apply certain scientific, objective theories to enrich their imaginations. This study is based on the process of the piece, which was exhibited at the Korean Modern Dance Museum on March 2nd, 2005. The study will present the theory of Laban Movement Analysis (LMA). LMA consists of vocabulary, concepts, and principles that describe both the quality and quantity of human movements and can help us recognize the meaning of movements. The applications for LMA have grown, and the theory is now utilized in the fields of theatre, sports, dance education, dance therapy, anthropology, and nonverbal communication. In this study, I tried to present the possibility that LMA can be applied to create movements by working with a certain choreographer. The results I gathered are as follows. First, I found that many expressive movements individually or synthetically employ four categories of LMA. Second, LMA is an effective theory for creating movement because it focuses on the progression of movement rather than its results. Therefore, by utilizing LMA, a choreographer can understand the progression and development of movement, and third, enrich her vocabulary to describe movements so that dancers can more easily demonstrate the movements the choreographer called for. Fourth, through LMA, a universal system with a scientific aspect, I saw harmony or rule of nature in movements. Ultimately, this study has demonstrated how to create movements using LMA. In addition, I have presented the possibility that LMA can be practically applied to choreographies for the stage just as they are for dance. I suggest that research should be advanced in dance theory based on scientific and universal systems so that choreographers can explore movements that express their thought and emotion. As a result, this study is significant in that it views practical application as the ultimate object of dance theory.
