경제적 디 스트레스가 재미한국계 어머니 양육행동에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 = 어머니 우울증상의 매개효과를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 부모의 경제적 지위가 부모의 스트레스 수준과 부모 양육행동에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지 확인하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구대상자는 4-18세 자녀를 둔 68명의 재미한 국계 어머니들이다.
연구결과는 “경제적 디 스트레스”와 “지지적 양육행동” 간에 의미 있는 역관계를 확인하였다. 이러한 결과는 소득수준과 같이 객관적인 지표와 지지적 양육행동간 관계보다 주관적 지표인 경제적 디 스트레스와 지지적 양육행동간 관계에 대한 경험적 증거를 제공한다. 특히 어머니 우울증상 수준은 부모 양육행동과 높게 관련되어 있었다. 추가적으로 어머니 우울증상 외에도 어머니 나이, 큰 자녀 나이, 자녀수의 변수들도 지지적 양육행동과 높게 관련되어 있었다. 특히 어머니의 우울증상 수준은 경제적 디 스트레스와 부모 양육행동 간의 관계에 매개요인으로 기능하고 있음을 검증하였다. 이에 이와 관련된 향후 논의점들을 제시하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper is to examine how the economic status of parents affects their stress level and their parenting behaviors. The subjects were 68 Korean American mothers with children from four to 18 years of age.
The results of the study showed a significant inverse relationship between “economic distress” and “supportive parenting behavior.” These results provide empirical evidence of relationship between supportive parenting behavior and economic distress as a subjective index rather than a more objective index such as the income level of parents. In particular, the level of depressive symptoms in mothers correlated highly with parenting behavior. In addition to the symptoms of depression, variables such as mother’s age, the age of the eldest child, and the number of children also correlated highly with supportive parenting behavior. Specifically, the level of depressive symptoms in mothers was shown to function as a mediating factor in the relationship between economic distress and the parenting behavior. Related discussion points for future research were then suggested.
