북핵 협상 20년 = 연구 쟁점과 과제

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The current state of affairs involves a continuing conflict between efforts by the international community to solve the North Korean nuclear issue and North Korea’s refusal to comply and an increasingly pessimistic view towards the prospect of denuclearizing North Korea since the 2nd nuclear test. Looking back on the North Korean nuclear negotiations for the past 20 years, I believe that it is time we reexamine as to whether there is any fundamental limitations in the approach taken to solve the problem.
This study does not try to analyze the major nuclear negotiation related issues raised till now simply through chronological or as a conflict between concerned parties. Rather, the paper attempts to approach the problem from the perspective of negotiation studies by examining the main factors of negotiation structure analysis such as points of dispute in the negotiation structure, strategy and results.
Based on the research materials such as theses, government reports and published journals, this study attempts to examine individual scholar’s method of approach and the main issues regarding the North Korean nuclear issue. When there is a specific pattern in their research disposition, it is the aim of this paper to discover the usefulness of such a trend from the perspective of negotiation studies.
It is my belief that examining how South Korean scholars have dealt with North Korean nuclear issue from a theoretical or policy related perspective can offer as important a policy suggestion as that derived from government efforts.
