      North Korea°Øs abrupt declaration on February 10,2005 that it owned nuclear weapons and it would withdraw from the Beijing-based six-party talks proved that three times of six-party talks have completed without any substantial consequences. The major problems come from China°Øs attitude toward the six-party talks. Instead of concentrating on the resolution of North Korea°Øs nuclear brinkmanship, China have more concerned to raise its image as a responsible great power as well as to protect current North Korean regime. Although six-party members agreed to continue the six-party talks as a major structure for the nuclear resolution, the upcoming six-party talks should not be like previous gatherings but be more conducive to resolving the problem. Given Pyongyang°Øs February 10th announcement as invalidity of China's traditional policy toward North Korea, China should reconsider its attitude toward this burdensome ally. As a result, this article argues that China should view North Korea not from the traditional buffer-zone perspective but from the liability perspective.

      North Korea°Øs abrupt declaration on February 10,2005 that it owned nuclear weapons and it would withdraw from the Beijing-based six-party talks proved that three times of six-party talks have completed without any substantial consequences.
