헤겔과 중국철학 = Hegel and Chinese Philosophy

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper is to examine the similarities between Hegel``s philosophy and Chinesephilosophy. In his History of Philosophy, Hegel severely underestimates Chinese philosophers. For example, Hegel``s judgement on Confucius is very harsh. Hegel thinks that Confucius was a moralist but not a moral philosopher. According to Hegel, Confucius was definitely not a speculative thinker. Moreover, Hegel says that it would have been better if Confucius were not translated. Although Hegel criticizes Chinese philosophy and philosophers harshly, there are unexpectedly many similarities between Hegel``s philosophy and Chinese philosophy. For example, we can see particularly three big similarities between Hegel``s Idee and the Neo-Confucian Li, between Hegel``s philosophy of organism and the Chinese philosophy of organism, between Hegel``s dialectics and the Chinese theory of the Yin-Yang in the I-Ching. In this paper is examined these three similarities between Hegel``s philosophy and Chinese philosophy. Because of these similarities it seems that we can more easily understand the philosophy of Hegel through Chinese philosophy and vice versa. I hope that this comparative study will make a contribution to the mutual understanding and communication between western philosophy and oriental philosophy.
