    Purposes of this thesis are to survey currency of grammar education study and to suggest new directions of it. Especially, I propose general and concrete directions according to living grammar education. About 20 Ph.D. thesis concerning grammar education have been published since 1992. At first most of these have been concerned with grammar content, but later with grammar education, that is, grammar education purpose, grammar content system, language awareness, and language regulation etc. These changes show that grammar education studies have been established. As general directions, I propose researches about living grammar education, using real language material, and improving thinking ability. And as concrete directions, I propose researches about principles of selection and arrangement of grammar content, connection of grammar units, teaching methods, and test of grammar ability.
