The education of college writing lays emphasis on combination with reading, use of content-area knowledge and language, argumentational thinking, generation of original ideas, organization of complicated thoughts, integration of various data, appropriate and lucid inference, and practical activity. These are the crucial elements for the concept of critical reading, which shows that the college writing requires and aims at the writing that is connected to critical thinking and reading. This paper provides a macro-level goal for college writing, which has not been theoretically systematized, based on J. E. McPeck`s notions of critical thinking and critical reading. Furthermore, it utilizes a specific text, media language, in order to demonstrate why critical reading, which is underscored in college writing, is important and how it can be taught and learned. The paper could concretize the relationship between critical thinking/critical reading and education.
