통학 대학생들의 대학사회내 통합증진, 생활만족도 증가, 학업성취도 향상을 위한 기초연구: OO 사립대학 장시간 통학생들을 중심으로 = A preliminary Study on Improving the Sense of Belonging, Life Satisfaction, and Academic Performance among Commuting College Students

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This qualitative study was designed to investigate and further understand the college experience of commuter students and provide recommendation for college administrators. sixteen commuter students, all enrolled in private university, participated in semi-structured interviews. Findings indicate that commuter students faced with special circumstances including extra time and money in traffic and long travel distances, and inconvenienced road transport system. Because of these circumstances, students are less satisfied with their overall college academic and social experiences. However, commuter students tried to overcome their difficulty by having positive attitude toward their environments. Moreover, students tried to live on/off campus instead of commuting to their usual place. Overall, students changed their environments to overcome the barriers. This knowledge can be helpful as a reference for faculty, student affair professionals, and college administrators who are willing to develop successful services and programs.
