청소년의 봉사 활동과 공동체 의식|RISS 상세보기

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 청소년의 봉사 활동이 공동체 의식에 미치는 영향을 밝히기 위해 ‘한국아동청소년패널조사’의 중1 코호트 2-4차 연도 자료를 분석하였다. 분석방법은 이원고정효과모형을 활용한 패널분석이다. 이 분석방법은 청소년의 학년이 높아짐에 따라 변화하는 공동체 의식에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 분석하기에 적합하다. 2011년부터 2013년까지의 자료, 곧 중학교 2학년부터 고등학교 1학년까지의 자료를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 봉사 활동 경험은 청소년의 공동체 의식을 향상시킨다. 하지만 봉사 활동 경험과 마찬가지로 봉사 활동의 형식적 측면이라고 할 수 있는 봉사 활동 시간은 공동체 의식의 향상에 기여하지 못하는 것으로 나타난다. 이러한 점은 청소년의 봉사 활동이 충분히 내실 있게 이루어지고 있지는 못하다는 점을 함축한다. 둘째, 봉사 활동의 질적 측면과 관련되어 있다고 할 수 있는 봉사 활동 만족도와 봉사 활동 동기는 공동체 의식의 변화에 의미 있는 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타난다. 봉사 활동 만족도는 공동체 의식에 정적인 영향을 미치고, 이타적 동기로 한 봉사 활동은 공동체 의식을 향상시키는 데 비해, 성적 때문에 한 봉사 활동은 공동체 의식을 약화시킨다. 따라서 청소년의 공동체 의식을 향상시키기 위해 봉사 활동을 실시하려 할 때는, 봉사 활동 만족도를 높이고, 이타적 동기를 강화하며, 성적을 얻으려는 동기를 약화시킬 수 있는 내용으로 봉사 활동을 준비해야 한다고 할 수 있다.

In order to explore the effects of adolescents’ volunteering activities on their sense of community, this study analyzed the 2nd-4th waves of the 7th grade cohort of the Korea Youth and Children Panel Survey dataset. The method of analysis was panel data analysis using two-way fixed effects models. The results were as follows. First, the experience of volunteering enhances adolescents’ sense of community. However, the hours of volunteering, regarded as another formal aspect of volunteering, does not by itself increase their sense of community. This implies that the contents of adolescents’ volunteering activities remain under-developed. Second, satisfaction in volunteering and motives of volunteering, which can be related to substantive aspects of volunteering, affect their sense of community. Satisfaction in volunteering increases their sense of community. Altruistic volunteering increases their sense of community, however volunteering to get better grades tends to decrease their sense of community. When one tries to set up volunteering services and activities to increase adolescents’ sense of community, one needs to prepare volunteering services that can increase satisfaction in volunteering, reinforce altruistic motives, and reduce the motives of getting better grades.
