This study is undertaken to examine the factors leading to innovativeness of small and medium sized enterprises(SMEs). The relationships between 12 variable, which are relevant to environmental and organizational characteristics, and firm`s innovativeness are analyzed form the data collected through a mail survey of 98 small and medium sized manufacturing firms. It also investigates whether firm`s age moderates the effects of those antecedents. The results show that the patterns of relationships in multiple regression models are substantially different from those found in product moment correlation analyses. The relationships between SME`s innovativeness and 12 facilitators varies substantially from younger to old firms. These results suggests that small and medium sized firms` innovativeness should be understood as a results of complicated effect of various facilitators. The findings also confirm the assertions that the determinants of SME`s innovativeness are different along with firm`s age. It implies that firm`s age should be considered as an moderator in order to capture important differences in the effects of environmental and organizational variables on SME`s innovativeness.
