후기 노년기 사회적 관계망 유형과 우울에 관한 연구 = The Social Network Types and Depression among Old-Old Elderly

Generally, older adults aged 75 or over are experienced the reduction of the size and quality of social relation due to health problems. This study was conducted to examine the social network types and the characteristics of community-dwelling older adults aged 75 or above. Date on 1,869 older adults aged 75 or above, from the 2012 Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing, were analyzed. We used the latent class analysis to investigate social network types of elderly and multiple regression analysis to examine the relationship between social network types and depressive symptoms. The results showed that old-old elderly had four distinct social network types: friend type(9.0%), family-social type(32.9%), children type(23.2%), children-friend type(34.9%). The friend type had no contact with children and had small social contacts compared to other types and the older adults with family-social type were more likely contact with children and friends and participate in social meetings. Those with children-friend type had lower social meetings compared to the family-social type, and the social relation of the elderly with children type was limited to only their children. The multiple regression analysis indicated that depressive symptoms among children type and friend type were higher than family-social type. It showed that social network types influenced on mental health of old-old adults. Based on the results of this study, implication for improving the size of social network and maintaining the positive relations with family, friends, and community were discussed.
