This paper attempted to measure and present the degree of generational inequality of the public pension schemes by utilizing the generational accounting based on the generally accepted understanding that the standard measure of the budget deficit may not provide satisfactory answer to this problem. It was confirmed through this study that the current public pension schemes in Korea would result in a generational imbalance. Despite all the limitations in raw data collection, the results of the generational accounts confirmed that the generational inequality is evident. The direction of the generational imbalance has been tested through various sensitivity tests and the direction has not been adversely. The generational accounts demonstrated the generational imbalance between the older and middle aged groups and the younger generations. This evident imbalance even at the stage of immature pension development stage is expected to become more pronounced in the future as the pension schemes mature.
