This study aims to provide useful information in understanding those who take part in belly dancing by identifying the relations between leisure satisfaction and their intent to continue physical activities according to belly dance participation, and it is to empirically identify the effects that belly dance participation (frequency, intensity, time, experience) has on leisure satisfaction and intent to physical activities.
For the purpose of the study, women in the age bracket of 20’s to 50’s residing in Seoul and Incheon were selected as subjects using stratified cluster random sampling. The data was collected using a questionnaire, and conducted by reliability analysis, frequency analysis, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 12.0 program.
The results of the study are as follows. First, the belly dance participation was found to have an effect on leisure satisfaction, and participation frequency showed significant differences in social satisfaction in sub factors of leisure activities. The result found that exercise intensity, duration, and participation intensity showed significant differences in physical satisfaction and environmental satisfaction. Second, level of participation in belly dance was found to have significant effect on intent to continue physical activities. In other words, the higher the level of participation, the higher was the intent to continue physical exercises, and the higher the duration and experience of participation, the higher was the possibility of continuing physical activities and the intent to continue. Third, the leisure satisfaction of belly dance participation was found to have an effect on the intent to continue physical activities. It shows the social satisfaction, a sub factor of leisure satisfaction, affects intent to continue the activities, and physical satisfaction on possibility of continuing the activities.
