This study was to analyze multicultural picturebooks focusing on multicultural families in Korea and to interpretate the children`s responses to the picturebooks. The subjects were 6 picturebooks about immigrant women, immigrant workers and North Korean refugees(Saeteomims). Also, we had group-interviews with 10 5-year-old children who were not a multicultural family members and had no experience abroad. The first result was that picturebooks were described in perspective of mainstream children even though their family was multicutural. Multicultural family people or foreigners were regarded as strangers. Moreover, diverse culture of the family was introduced a little. Second, children`s responses were different to multicultural family based on familiarity. In addition, young children did not show the curiosities about the multicultural families and their cultural backgounds in picturebooks. Thus, we should offer diverse picturebooks and concrete or actual materials about multicultural background to understand multicultural families.
