북한이탈여성의 구술전략과 담론적 수행: 어머니되기 경험을 중심으로 = Narrative Strategies and Discursive-Performative in North Korean Refugee Women`s Oral History: Focusing on Mothering

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article started from the finding that female North Korean refugees tended to narrate their experiences in some unique ways when they narrate their life stories, especially focusing on their experiences of mothering in the North. These women gave accounts of their stories in three different ways. Some emphasized the experience of mothering, others used mothering as an ancillary case for other events in life, and still others regarded it as a minor affair in their lives. The research found that such differences between the women derived mainly from the different position they had or still have. For example, those who had no occasions of receiving recognition in North Korea, with no prospect of getting one in the South, either, inclined to narrate mostly about stories that they thought of worth. And those who had experiences of acknowledgment both in the North and the South narrated their mothering experiences in a way that led to emphasize the acknowledgment, while some of them, concentrating on the purpose of the research, assigned minor importance on mothering. Those narrative strategies revealed that the women from the North wanted to affirm their positions in South Korea and be accepted from the society by distancing themselves from the North and making capital of their past experiences.
