To minimize the loss of sample attrition is very important in order to maintain the validity of research in longitudinal panel studies. To prevent the panel attrition and to provide fundamental guidelines for future panel studies, we examined the patterns of wave- nonresponse, by using the Seoul Child Panel Study(SCPS) that 1,785 children participated during the ten years. We used latent class analysis(LCA) to confirm hidden classes of the wave-nonresponse caused by the panel attrition, and further examined which factors influence the latent types of wave-nonresponse, such as paired study sample, school information, reasons of survey failure, types of survey organizers, social developmental characteristics of survey participants. In the result of analysis, the SCPS had 5 types of wave-nonresponse, and these types were differentiated by multiple factors of survey, such as children`s school achievement; parents` education and educational expectation to their children; and successful tracking information of panel sample. These findings can provide useful suggestions for future panel studies in terms of sample weighting adjustment method and effective retention and tracking strategies.
