Rosenberg의 자아존중감 척도: 문항수준 타당도분석 = Rosenberg' Self-Esteem Scale: Analysis of Item-Level Validity

In this study, we analyzed the item-level validity of Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale(RSES). Specifically, a total of 3,498 students participated in this study to assess the unidimensionality of RSES as well as item-level reliability and validity. The results indicated that elementary, middle, and high school students had negative item-total correlations on the eighth item of the RSES. Item-totalcorrelations of the same item were relatively low in college students as well. In addition, the troublesome nature of RSES Item 8 existed in reliability and validity analyses. Therefore, item 8 of the RSES should be cautiously translated and revised to prevent a degree of ambiguity that may cause it to be easily misinterpreted in different cultural contexts.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 Rosenberg의 자아존중감 척도의 타당도를 문항수준에서 분석하고자 하였다. 구체적으로 초, 중, 고, 대학생 총 3,498명을 대상으로 Rosenberg의 자아존중감 척도가 단일구인을 측정하고 있는 지, 문항들 중 자아존중감 척도의 신뢰도와 타당도를 위협하는 문항은 없는 지를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 번역에 문제가 있는 것으로 판단되는 8번 문항의 경우, 초․중․고등학생에서는 부적 상관관계가 나타났으며, 대학생에서는 낮은 정적 상관관계가 나타났다. 또한 8번 문항은 자아존중감 척도의 전체 신뢰도를 떨어뜨리는 문항인 것으로 판명되었으며, 8번 문항을 제외하면 자아존중감 척도는 단일요인인 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 자아존중감 척도의 신뢰도와 타당도를 높이기 위해서는 8번 문항의 수정이 요구되며, 이 같은 결과는 이질적인 문화의 척도를 가져올 때 번역에 주의해야 할 필요성을 보여준다.
