상담수련과정에서상담자의 자기 발달 경험에 대한 현상학적 연구 = A Phenomenological Study on Self-Development Experiences of Counselors during Counseling Training

The purpose of this study is to gain a full understanding of the self-development experiences of counselors and their meaning during counseling training. For this purpose this study explored the experiences and the meaning of counselors’ development of their personal-self during counseling training and how the experiences of counselors’ personal-self development are revealed in the experiences of their professional-self development. For methodology, Giorgi’s descriptive phenomenological method was utilized. 5 constituents and 18 subconstituents were derived from in-depth interviews with 9 participants. The constituents are composed of ‘motivation to enter counseling training’, ‘developing the reflective-self’, ‘restoring the connection’, ‘becoming self-differentiated’, and ‘growing into a professional counselor’. The findings are as follows: First, the self-development experiences of counselors included intrapersonally developing reflective-self and interpersonally restoring connection and becoming self-differentiated. Second, their practical knowledge obtained from their personal life experiences enhanced confidence and competence as counselors. Especially personal healing experiences have become resources for counseling, expanded empathy and understanding of clients, and given counselors responsibility and confidence in healing others. Therefore, the development experiences of counselors’ personal-self and their professional-self have positive reciprocal influences on each other and facilitate each other’s growth. They have integrated and brought holistic development. In conclusion, the essence of the self-development experiences of counselors during counseling training can be expressed as ‘the process of developing reflective-self and growing into counselors with resources from life experiences’.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 상담수련과정에서 상담자의 자기 발달 경험과 그 경험의 의미를 심층적으로 이해하는 데 있다. 이를 위하여 상담수련과정에서 경험하는 상담자의 개인적 자기 발달 경험과 그 의미를 심도있게 조명하고, 개인적 자기 발달 경험이 전문가적 자기 발달 경험 속에 어떻게 드러나는지를 심층적으로 살펴보았다. 연구방법으로 Giorgi의 현상학적 연구방법을 적용하여 9명의 참여자와의 심층면담을 통한 진술로부터 5개의 구성요소와 18개의 하위구성요소를 도출하였다. 구성요소는 ‘상담입문 동기’, ‘성찰적 자기가 발달해감’, ‘연결을 회복해감’, ‘자기분화가 되어감’, ‘상담전문가로 성장해감’이다. 연구결과 상담수련과정에서 상담자의 자기 발달 경험과 그 의미는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 상담자의 개인적 자기 발달 경험은 개인 내적으로는 성찰적 자기가 발달해 가는 것이었고 관계적으로는 연결회복과 자기분화를 이루어 간다는 데 의미가 있었다. 둘째, 상담자의 개인적 삶의 경험을 통해 획득한 실천적인 지식은 상담자로서 자신감과 유능성을 향상시키는 데 도움이 되었다. 특히 상처 치유 경험은 상담의 자원이 되어 내담자에 대한 이해와 공감 능력을 확장시켰고, 치유에 대한 사명감과 확신을 가져왔다. 따라서 상담자의 개인적 자기 발달과 전문가적 자기 발달 경험은 상호 긍정적인 영향을 미침으로써, 서로의 성장을 촉진 강화하고 통합되어 전인적인 발달을 이루어간다고 할 수 있다. 결론적으로 상담수련과정에서 상담자의 자기 발달 경험의 본질적 의미는 ‘성찰적 자기 발달과 삶의 경험을 자원으로 하는 상담자로 성장하는 과정’이라고 이해될 수 있다.
