    There are lots of stories about ‘maeul’. ‘Maeul’ was a site of living and common living space in the traditional agricultural societies. It has been considered as being the necessity of reconstruction in the process of the industrialization and the urbanization. But it has been casting off its old-fashioned image today. ‘Maeul’ going together ‘maeul’ movement for the recovering of the communal life is a community and network at the same time. This ‘maeul’ community is also a space for the realization of citizens’ autonomy, in which they solve the local problems by themselves and the public comes to the awakening citizen through this process. ‘Maeul’ community is both a decentralized and a diversified site and it vitalizes democracy. It can further have an influence on the way of solving general social problems and the operative principle of a state also.
