프랑스 에코뮤지엄 개념의 형성과 발전과정 연구 = A Study on the Formation and Development of the Concept of Ecomuseum in France

This study is to interpret and comprehend a concept of ecomuseum in France as the new museology, specially advocates of the antimuseum.
In first part we inquired into the backgounds of the genesis of ecomuseum in original concepts from the nineteenth century to the early 1970s, for example ideals of beauty and the Enlightenment, scientific and democratic theory of the museum or museography, the ATP, the concept of an outdoor museum, the idea of heritage(patrimoine) etc. The ideological context of the 1970s offered the ecomuseum a militant new audience, eager to participate in voluntary associations, users’ committees, and the like.
And second part we described the definitions and identities of ecomuseum mainly in model G.-H. Rivière for the French Musée de l’Homme, Année du Patrimoine, Les lieux de mémoire in the 1980s. The very concept of the ecomuseum was threatened in newly created institutions by their need to respond to the social crisis that accompanied the bankruptcy of traditional industries. The creation of the Federation of Ecomuseums reaffirmed the ‘philosophy’ of the institution, as well as the necessity and integrity of its museological and cultural programs. In forty years, the ecomuseum has become a fact of life, as much by virtue of the achievements of particular institutions.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

연구는 프랑스 에코뮤지엄 개념의 해석과 이해를 위하여 그 용어의 형성과 발전과정을 살펴보는데 있다. 이를 위해 우선 에코뮤지엄의 기원과 정의들을 통해 그 탄생배경을 기술하고, 1970년 전후의 사회적 배경을 고려한 프랑스 에코뮤지엄의 정체성, 그리고 1980년대 이후에 나타난 에코뮤지엄의 전개와 활동을 서술하였다. 1960년대 이후 프랑스 에코뮤지엄, 또는 명칭은 다르지만 이에 상응하는 뮤지엄 활동의 양과 질, 성격, 형태 등이 매우 다양하게 나타났다. 1970년대 처음 제안된 에코뮤지엄의 이념 및 접근방법은 프랑스 에코뮤지엄에 그 근원을 두고 있다. 지역주민의 역할을 강조하고 있는 리비에르의 에코뮤지엄의 정의는 에코뮤지엄의 표준으로 채택되어 오늘날 전 세계에서 시행되고 있다. 특히 1980년대 이후 전통박물관의 의미와 역할이 확장되어, ‘지역의 정체성 확립 및 지역 활성화’, ‘주민의 자발적 참여’, ‘복합적 학문영역’, ‘문화유산의 보존’ 등을 기반으로 자기 관리와 더 많은 참여의 가치를 강조했다. 이에 따라 전통박물관과 에코뮤지엄은 건물 대 장소(site), 소장품 대 문화유산, 일반국민 대 지역주민 등의 이원적 대립관계가 등장하기 시작했다. 이러한 프랑스의 에코뮤지엄은 전통박물관이 가진 거울이미지의 형이상학이며, 문화적 지혜를 만드는 소크라테스적 문답식 과정이기도 하다.
