노인차별 피해경험이 노인의 심리적 안녕감에 미치는 영향 = Experiences of Elderly Discriminations and Psychological Well-being of the Elderly

The purpose of this study is to identify socio-demographic characteristics and experiences of elderly discriminations that influence the psychological well-being of Korean elders. The data were collected from a convenience sample of 328 Koreans residing in Seoul city and Gyeonggi province. The dependent variable is depression and the independent variables are experiences of elderly discrimination composed of three dimensions(disregard, evasion, and alienation) and socio-demographic factors(sex, age, marital status, educational level, health status, economic situation, and religion).
The findings of the study are as follows: Firstly, the mean scores of elderly discriminations are from 2.08 to 3.05 and those of three dimensions of elderly discrimination are disregard 2.36(sd=.50), evasion 2.27(sd=.47) and alienation 2.77 (sd=.42) out of possible range from 1 to 4. Secondly, One-way analysis variance test is conducted to identify the differences in depression of the elderly according to socio-demographic variables. It shows that the influencing factors are marital status(F=.987, p<.05), educational level(F=6.784, p<.01), health status(F=10.621, p<.001), and economic situation(F=11.003, p<.001). Thirdly, correlational analysis shows that every items and three dimensions of elderly discriminations are significantly related to depression. Finally, regression analysis shows that the predictors of depression among Korean elders are identified as educational level(Beta=-.136), health status(Beta=-.239), experiences of elderly discriminations such as disregard(Beta=.181), evasion(Beta=.190) and alienation(Beta=.138). Based on the findings, implications for social welfare policy related to specific measures for alleviating elderly discriminations and enhancing the psychological well-being of Korean elders are discussed.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 우리 사회 노인들이 경험하는 노인차별 피해경험에 대해 알아보고, 노인차별 피해경험이 노인의 심리적 안녕감에 어떠한 영향을 주는가를 살펴보고자 하였다. 조사대상은 서울시 및 수도권에 거주하고 있는 323명의 노인으로, 종속변인으로 우울감을, 독립변인으로 노인차별 피해경험(무시, 기피, 소외 영역) 및 인구사회학적 특성(성별, 연령, 결혼상태, 교육정도, 건강상태, 경제상황, 종교)을 사용하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과를 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노인차별의 피해경험에 대한 점수는 2.08에서 3.05의 범위로, 영역별 점수는 무시 측면 2.36(sd=.50), 기피 측면 2.27(sd=.47), 소외 측면 2.77(sd=.42)이었다. 둘째, 일반적 특성에 따른 노인 우울감 정도의 차이를 일원분산 분석을 통해 살펴보았는데, 결혼상태(F=.987, p<.05), 교육정도(F=6.784, p<.01), 건강상태(F=10.621, p<.001), 경제상황(F=11.003, p<.001)이 우울감의 차이를 가져오는 유의미한 변인으로 나타났다. 셋째, 노인차별 피해경험 및 노인의 심리적 안녕감간 상관관계 분석을 한 결과 노인차별 피해경험의 각 문항 및 하위영역이 모두 우울감에 유의미한 상관성을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 인구사회학적 특성 및 노인차별 피해경험이 노인의 심리적 안녕감에 어떠한 영향력이 있는가를 살펴보기 위해 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 이의 결과 교육정도(Beta=-.136), 건강상태(Beta=-.239), 노인차별 피해경험의 하위 영역인 무시(Beta=.181), 기피(Beta=.190), 소외(Beta=.138) 모두가 노인의 우울감에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 노인차별 피해경험이 노인의 심리적 안녕감에 있어서 중요한 요인이라는 점이 밝혀졌으며 우리 사회 노인차별 피해경험을 완화 내지 해소하기 위한 사회복지 정책 방안을 모색하였다.
